Photo Essay
I took these photos while I was in downtown Bristol, Rhode Island. The subjects of my photos included many nautical themed objects, as well as some old or colorful buildings. I chose to take these images in Bristol because of the seafaring atmosphere and the preservation of historical sites. I admire the peacefulness of the area. With these pictures I am trying to convey a sense of nostalgia, as well as the passage of time and the decay of the area. The photos show not only the nautical side of Bristol, but also the more urban part of the town. The pictures range from dockside rowboats, to spray painted social commentary, showing the diversity of the area. I arranged the photos to start with the door, symbolizing an entrance. Then, just as you would travel toward the water, view the shoppes and restaurants. Then the pictures progressively more nautical, ending right near the water. All the photos are generally bright and most have some form of color. The pictures are unified by the area they were all taken in and by the story they tell.
